GREENLAND SLED DOGS STILL SUFFER

GREENLAND SLED DOGS STILL SUFFERING

The Photos below were taken between April 30th. and May 5th., 2007 in Kulusuk, Greenland. They clearly show that the Sled Dogs are still being kept in horrible conditions. They had no dry place to rest; there are no shelters from the wind, rain and snow. The party who took these photos spoke with one of the Greenland veterinarians, and was told that it is most important that the dogs get immediate help. The Veterinarian also said the problem is so huge they don't know where to start.

IT IS OUR BELIEF AT THE CANADIAN VOICE FOR ANIMALS THAT ALL THE POLITICAL RHETORIC FROM GREEN LAND HOME RULE IS NOT HELPING. IT IS ALSO APPARENT THAT THE SO CALLED HOME RULE PROPOSAL FOR THE DOGS IS NOTHING MORE THAN REDUNDANT WORDS TO KEEP THE WORLD CITIZENS AT BAY.

THE PROPOSAL BY HOME RULE LOOKS PROMISING, BUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE. IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A RUSE, A DECEPTION OF THE TRUTH...THE DOGS ARE STILL IN DEEP TROUBLE.

THE CONTENTS OF AN E-MAIL RECEIVED TODAY FROM A CONCERNED CITIZEN OF EUROPE

NEVER VISIT GREENLAND AGAIN

The nature is really beautiful and spectacular- but what really makes a trip to Greenland unforgettable is nothing close to beautiful.  The heartbreaking sight of the poor sledge dogs- which the local people and government claim to be a important part of them and their culture. The law in Greenland says the dogs should have a dry place to stay/sleep - nice, but the truth is they stay outside in the snow-rain-wind- and many don't even get the luxury of having a little straw to lie on- put on a 50 m leach- or a short one so they have to lie in the water etc.

I wrote to one of the Vets who is helping out in Greenland said they really need help, and told me the best thing I could was to write to everybody who cares and to everybody who SHOULD care- because the important people who could make a difference in Greenland, still look the other way. They really need to see horrible pictures before they will even consider to do something.

Its really hard to understand that the Danish government ( Lene Espersen) leave this problem to be solved by the people/ government in Greenland. The intuits- local people NEED education in how to treat the dogs, starting with basic things like food, water.....but maybe we should start to educate the Government in Greenland first because they have been looking the other way far too long...
